The Embrace
In Argentine Tango, the embrace is the heart of the dance – providing a connection that connects two dancers to move as one. In my teaching, I emphasize the embrace as a dynamic and adaptable element.
The connection between partners is the priority, whether dancing in a close or open embrace. The close embrace enhances intimacy and connection, perfect for social dancing and expressing the music’s nuances. The open embrace provides space for certain movements and creativity, allowing for greater exploration of dynamic sequences.
In my classes I teach both embraces, helping leaders and followers understand their roles and adapt seamlessly between them. We explore the close embrace as a core element of tango, fostering intimacy and connection, but also incorporate the open embrace for versatility and creative movements. Followers, in particular, should feel confident and comfortable in both styles, ensuring they can enjoy the dance fully in any setting.
My Philosophy of Teaching
Argentine Tango is not about a series of steps – it’s about connection, musicality, and improvisation. My approach focuses on helping dancers find a deep connection with themselves, their partners, and the music. In my classes, I prioritize foundational skills like posture, balance, and leading or following. These elements create a strong basis for improvisation and creativity on the dance floor.
In my teaching, I embrace a hybrid approach that combines the depth and emotional connection of traditional tango with the precision and adaptability of contemporary methods. I focus on helping dancers develop a strong foundation in technique, musicality, and connection, while also encouraging improvisation and self-expression, while staying true to the essence of tango as a dialogue between partners and the music.
